Connect the playback device
Use an appropriate line-level input or audio interface for the tape player’s output. Check the hardware instructions and confirm that Windows receives the input signal.
Select that capture input in Free Sound Recorder. Avoid selecting speaker loopback or unrelated microphones unless they belong in the same take.
Make a level check
Play a louder part of the tape and record a short test. Set a level that remains clear without distortion. A very high software gain setting can also raise hiss and background sound.
Record and organize the take
Record the section you need, press Stop and trim its beginning or end. Save the current mix as WAV or FLAC for a lossless file, or MP3 for convenient sharing.
Keep an .amss session if you want to return to the editable recording. Use clear filenames so the exported sections remain easy to identify.
